A fresh Start…

You have . . . put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Colossians 3:9–10
I’ve never had a weight problem—weight finds me with no problem at all. I gain five pounds by reading a cookie recipe. I am only 5’1″ tall, so no matter how you do the math, it equals short and fat.
I recently lost 80 pounds. (Picture 16 five-pound bags of sugar.) I haven’t gained back even one little ounce. Good for me!
The day dawned when I honestly did not have a thing to wear. Everything was too big. I drove to a clothing shop where an aisle separated the Misses from the Plusses. I instinctively went to the Plus section and chose my traditional size. In the dressing room, though, everything was too large. Returning to the sales floor, I tried items smaller and smaller until I exhausted all the Plus possibilities.
My brain believed I was the same Plus size, but the clothes said I was smaller. Standing awkwardly at the edge of promise, I realized it was time to cross the aisle to the Misses section.
I did not belong there. I could almost hear alarms shrieking, “Fraud! Fraud! Return to the Plus sizes!”
A kind lady noticed my confusion. When I shared my dilemma, she giggled and said, “Honey, this whole store belongs to you. Go put on your clothes.”
She made my transition a party, dressing me in things I would never have tried before. I left with several new outfits, a new friend and a big smile. No alarms sounded.
Losing 80 pounds created a new physical me. Scripture reminds me that my spiritual dress is even more important: “Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Colossians 3:12).

  1. I definitely know that confused feeling and feeling like a fraud after weightloss. I love the way the lady responded to you. It doesn’t happen that way all the time. I love the way you write by the way! Thanks for sharing!
